Harvest Festival
Harvest Festival is on October 16th and that is only 6 weeks away! We are planning to have a great carnival like event with lots of fun booths and games available to everyone to enjoy. Here is a brief list of type of booths we may have: climbing rock wall, obstacle courses, cookie decorating, face painting/tattoo/hair coloring, button making, sand art, wand making, mask decorating and more. Also, we will have a rummage, bake and merchandise sale. These are just samples of what we have planned so far. Remember, each class is respon- sible for running a booth. So, start thinking about the type of booth your class would like to have (final decision will be made by the festi- val committee). Have a great idea? Email your ideas to Julie Lin (julie@ acromaxnetworks.com). Can’t come up with an booth idea. Don’t worry, we will several options available. Don’t forget to submit your PTA pledge form. Extra forms can be found in the office. We are asking for 100% participation from our community. Extended families can also contribute to the PTA on your child’s behalf. So grandparents, aunts, uncles and friends can also make donations. The funds we raise will help Lakeshore to continue providing Art, Drama, Gardening, Motor Perception and so much more. Let’s keep Lakeshore’s enrichment programs alive for all of our children to enjoy!

www.lakeshoreelementary.org updates
Last year the Lakeshore website was redesigned to make it more useful and usable for the Lakeshore community. For the 2009-2010 year we added weekly Lakeshore news updates (Contents of the Paw Print Press newsletter are posted weekly), an online calendar of school events, and the capability of accepting credit card donations online (using PayPal).

Over the summer the following improvements have been added:

PTA Directory now has contact information online – just click the link to the password protected page and use the password listed in the newsletter (please do not share this password outside the Lakeshore community).

A revised map of the Lakeshore campus has been added (it now includes the recent improvements).

Access to google (machine) translations for all web pages. The quality of these translations will vary since they are generated on-the-fly by google’s translation software.

Information that has changed for the 2010-2011 school year has been updated or will be updated very soon. Some small changes have been made to the website’s organization and navigation. It should be easier now to find our “Donate” button and donation directions have been added. One of the donation screens now includes a field “Note/classroom/student name”. If you have any questions please contact Lisa Weinberg at lakeshorewebmaster@gmail.com

Message from the Principal
It is hard to believe that the school year is over! This year has been filled with many memorable moments spent with children, parents/caregivers and families, teachers and staff that I will forever cherish. We have had many laughs together and with the good times there were also the challenges. Whatever we were dealing with, I feel that we always came together and made decisions putting our children first.

Sadly, many of our families will no longer be at Lakeshore next year with their children moving on to middle school or relocating. I will miss all of you and hope that you stop by now and again!

I hope everyone has a safe and rejuvenating summer! To those of you who are moving on, I wish you and your families a wonderful journey wherever it may take you. To those returning to Lakeshore next year, I look forward to working with you in the 2010-2011 school year. – Ms. Keener

SUMMER BREAK : LEARNING AND STAYING ACTIVE
Keep the learning going and have a look at the many activities that are being offered FREE! A handout of many events and activities are included with today’s newsletter provided by SFUSD. If you do not receive this handout, please call the school office or stop by and pick one up! It has been translated to provide access to every family. – Ms. Keener

Auction Results
Congratulations to everyone who worked so hard in organizing and running the Spring Auction fundraiser this year. We netted approximately $25,000, all of which will go directly back to your children. We now have a working committee dedicated to making it happen once again next year in 2011, with many more parents dedicated to helping out. The organizing team consists of: Alison Levy, Victoria Tan, Mariah Bianchi, Dave Stockett, Michael Conte, Kanya Rajangam, Andrea Brown
Please consider becoming Auction Chair to head up this fabulous team. – Megumi Fuse, PTA President

It’s open enrollment time for the After School Mandarin Program for the 2010-2011 school year! Space is limited and is a first come first serve basis. If you are interested and need more information, please contact Michelle Kuo or Ellen Lin.

Medication Retrieval
This is the last notice to pick up all unused, discontinued, or outdated medication m by the end of the school year. Any mediation that remains after the last day of school will be discarded. You are required to complete a Medication Form and Emergency Care Plan at the start of the school year if medications are to be taken at school during the 2010-2011 school year. You are urged to make an appointment with your child’s health care provider during the summer.

Student Placement Letters
Student placement letters will be sent out the week of July 26th. A huge appreciation goes to the following parents/caregivers for responding so quickly and volunteering their time to get placement letters to families:
Melissa Howard, Esther Carmona, Irene Conte, Lynne Bradshaw, Queenie Cheng, Yeely and William Kwan, Cai Runtan and Susanne Hilty

Message from the PTA President
This has been an exciting year, where we have really seen the teachers and community rally for education. I am proud to say that we, the PTA, have been able to be part of this. We have offered the enrichment programs for your kids, such as art, poetry, theater, music, dance, yoga and so much more. We have raised funds to keep programs that would otherwise get cut next year, with over $60,000 in revenue from membership, silent auction and many other events. We also have a great new Auction crew ready to get next year’s auction underway, so please contact me if you want to help. We have also made some big changes for next year. Stay tuned for our Fall Harvest Festival to replace our Spring Fling – great weather, green theme and lots of fun! And while we have also seen some budget cuts, I continue to work with the Arts Grant Committee, Lindsey Keener and the School Site Council to coordinate our expenses to ensure that all Lakeshore kids get the best education possible.

But remember, none of this could be done without all your participation. Thanks for all your hard work this year, and think about how you will participate next year!

Finally, next year will be my last year as president and at Lakeshore school. Please consider the position of PTA President for the upcoming year. Become my VP this year, so you can see how it all works, and slowly get involved. Feel free to contact me to discuss this position or any others on the PTA roster. Megumi Fuse (PTA President) megumifuse@gmail.com, 415-806-8016

December Shopping Party Results
Before the year ends, I would like to say THANK YOU to all of the shoppers who came to the Sports Basement Shopping Party in December. I just found out that we bought over $5,000 worth of merchandise and earned $581 (10% of sales) for Lakeshore! We are hoping to have this event again in December 2010 and hope to see many of you and your friends/ family there! This is an extremely easy and fun way to earn a little money for our school! Thanks again, Mariah

PTA Donations
We only have two more weeks until the school year ends! You still have time to make a donation to the PTA. If you have not already done so, please make a donation to the PTA today.
Spring Fling Cancelled
Please note that Spring Fling is cancelled this year due to an insufficient number of volunteers. However, the good news is that we will have a Fall Harvest Festival this fall! Keep your eyes posted for notices on the new Fall Harvest Festival in October, 2010.

Please plan on attending the May 12 PTA meeting to discuss the fates of Spring Fling, the Silent Auction Fundraiser and other Lakeshore events for the upcoming school year. If we do not fill our volunteer roster for these events, they will be canceled in the upcoming school year. PTA meeting (Wed., May 12; 6:30-8:00 pm) will include childcare for elementary school age children, and pizza. If you cannot attend the meeting, please let me know how you can help next year. I can be contacted via email at megumifuse@gmail.com

Jamba School Appreciation Program
Jamba Juice has partnered with National PTA to create a fun and easy year- round school fundraising opportunity – the Jamba School Appreciation Program. A flyer and a swipe card have been sent home with your child. The cards have already been programmed so it is ready to be used! Just present this card at time of Jamba pur- chase and 10% will be donated to Lakeshore’s PTA! So easy! It’s like using the Lucky’s Shares card. Extra cards are available in the office so feel free to take more and pass them out to friends and family who are Jamba Juice fans. Remember to keep this card handy during the summer as well!

Fundraising
We are still over $10,000 short of reaching our PTA Pledge Goal. We are facing huge budget cuts for next year, but the PTA is trying its best to continue providing enrich- ment programs to ALL of our children at Lakeshore. We cannot do this without your generous contributions.
- If you have not already made a donation to the PTA then this is a great time to do so.
- If you were not able to attend the auction consider making a donation to the PTA.
- If your children enjoy programs like Motor, PE, Gardening, Art, Poetry, Drama and more then make a donation to the PTA. Your donation is tax deductible! PTA Pledge forms can be downloaded from our website. You can also make a donation directly through our website. All donations made by charge cards will be processed through our PayPal account.
Thank you so much for supporting Lakeshore! – Julie Lin
