Dear Lakeshore Parents/Guardians,
Welcome to the 2010-2011 school year! I hope that the summer break provided you with quality time to spend with your children and family and that you are now energized and ready to gear up for another busy year at Lakeshore!
For those of you who I have not yet had the opportunity to meet, I would like to share some information about myself with you. I began my professional career as a classroom teacher 18 years ago in Phoenix, Arizona. My Masters in Educational Leadership was completed at Northern Arizona University after teaching in the classroom for 4 years. After teaching for 10 years at an elementary school, I found my way to San Francisco 8 years ago and was hired by SFUSD where I worked as an Instructional Reform Facilitator for 4 years. This year will be my fifth year at Lakeshore as Principal. I feel privileged to be part of such an energetic and positive learning community!
Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to work at different schools with diversity reflected in the students, parents and teachers. My goal is to continue to work together to create an enriching and joyful learning environment for every child. I assure you I am committed to the safety, academic success, learning and social development of your children.
NEW STAFF AND ASSIGNMENT CHANGES
Unfortunately, Ms. Pat Forte will not be returning this year as Assistant Principal. Due to the deep budget cuts, the District will not be providing additional administrative support to Lakeshore.
Mr. Michael McCauslin who served as a Teacher on Special Assignment position (TSA) providing valuable assistance in the office and around Lakeshore and also implemented a Mindful Teaching and Learning Program, will be returning to his 4th grade classroom full time. We will continue to teach and practice our Mindful Teaching and Learning utilizing the lessons that were modeled for teachers by Mr. McCauslin and Mr. Barruck last year. The program helped teach our children to develop calmness, increased focus, and greater empathy – all of which help children to learn better and to enjoy school more! We saw this demonstrated everyday by students as they used their words to solve conflict, remained calm and showed significant improvement by not immediately reacting to situations. I have heard such positive feedback from parents/guardians/teachers and personally witnessed student interactions that were much more thoughtful and respectful. Therefore, we will continue to deepen our knowledge and practice around the program.
Sadly, we say goodbye to Mrs. Jackie Gorman (3rd grade), Ms. Marisa Lai (4th grade), Ms. Cathy Wilkins (SDC K-2), Mr. Michael Weiner (Paraprofessional SDC K-2), Ms. Karen Combs (O/T), Ms. Michelle May (School Psychologist) Ms. Mei and Ms. Shirley, our day and evening custodians as their personal and professional journeys take them elsewhere. We enthusiastically welcome:
- Ms. Joy Huang – SDC K-2
- Curtis Sasaki – Paraprofessional SDC K-2
- Geshing Liang – Day Custodian
- Simon Yao Ming Li – Evening Custodian

ADA CONSTRUCTION UPDATE
The ADA construction is nearly finished. It is hard to believe if you have seen the upper yard over the past month! Parents and Guardians will be receiving a letter from the construction manager, Alberto Vasquez, informing you of the scope of the work that has been completed over the summer. Currently, there is a permanent structure being constructed that will include 4 classrooms. A few of the highlights of the modular classrooms are:
- 5 skylights in each classroom
- A concrete walkway in front and between the buildings with a covered walkway and concrete planters.
- A sink and new casework
- Benches in front of each classroom
- Window shades and clock system throughout the entire campus.
In addition, all three play yards will get a slurry seal which will give it a uniform black finish and new game lines. Bungalows 9, 11, 17 will be removed. Ms. Chan and Ms. Pang’s first grade and Ms. Tenney and Mr. Ramos’s second grade class will be in the new classrooms.
Again, I look forward to working with you with the goal of having a positive and productive school year! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at (415) 759-2825 or at keenerl@sfusd.edu
Sincerely,
Lindsey N. Keener, Principal
