LIBRARY

A message from Mrs. Celena Courtney, Lakeshore Librarian

The mission of the Lakeshore Alternative School's library program is to support teaching and learning in the classroom. The library resource center is staffed by a certificated library media services teacher, and several dedicated parent volunteers.

To ensure that students and staff are effective users of information and ideas, the library staff and parent volunteers provide:

* Class Visits - Every class visits the library each week. On alternate visits the staffeither checks out books or teaches library information literacy activities.

* Student Resources - With parental approval, students check out books regularlyfrom the library. Monthly circulation is approximately 1,500 books.

* Teacher Resources - An extensive collection of realia and science materials, books, magazines, internet access to web resources, etc. The librarianis available to collaborate with teachers, as well as to locate resources to supplement classroom materials and instruction.

* Parents and Staff have access to the library resources.

* Special Activities - California Young Reader Medal, reading incentives, Read-a- thons, and other special activities are scheduled to stimulate learners at Lakeshore Alternative Elementary.
