Before- and After-School Programs 2016-17

Afternoon Mandarin Program

Lakeshore’s Afternoon Mandarin Program (AMP) is a PTA-sponsored second language program. Designed for BOTH English-speakers and Mandarin-speakers, students will develop fundamental communication and literacy skills in one of the world’s most spoken languages.

No prior exposure to Mandarin is necessary.

Program Highlights:

  • Duration: Throughout the entire school year
  • Grades: ALL grade levels
  • Levels: Beginner, Intermediate/Advanced
  • Time: 3:35pm – 5:00pm (recess from 3:35pm – 4pm)
  • Class Size: Limited to 12 students per class
  • Location: On-site

Program tuition:

  • $30 one-time application fee (new students only, non-refundable)
  • $20 book/materials fee
  • $475/semester for 5 days, $450/semester for 4 days
  • $25/semester discount for each additional sibling

Play-Well LEGO® Robotics and Engineering

Class 1: ROBOTICS using LEGO® EV3

Build and program robots using the new LEGO Mindstorms EV3 system! Learn about mechanical and software design, problem solving, and teamwork skills. Work in small groups, program and build your robot, and rise to the challenge. Control the robot to avoid obstacles, pick up and carry objects, and play sounds. Projects are structured so that students work in an open-ended, investigative environment while having fun.

GRADES: 3-5 / MONDAYS / 3:35 – 5:30
Dates: August 29 – Nov 14 (10 sessions) No class on 9/5, 10/10
Fees: $250 per student
Class Size: Min 11 students (max 16)

Class 2: JEDI Engineering using LEGO®

Young Jedi will explore worlds far, far away and engineering principles right in front of them. Defeat the Empire by designing and refining LEGO® X-Wings, R2-units, and settlements on far-flung edges of the galaxy. Imagination and engineering combine to create motorized and architectural projects such as energy catapults, shield generators and defense turrets.

GRADES K-2 / MONDAYS / 3:35 – 5:00

Fees: $205 per student
Class Size: Min 11 students (max 16)
