More Announcements for the Start of School

Hello Lakeshore Families,

We are all so excited to welcome your children back to school, and staff have been hard at work getting ready to receive students Monday morning. The first day can be emotional for both students and families.  We encourage you to support your child in this transition by ensuring they get a good night’s sleep and that they eat a healthy breakfast before coming to school each day. Also please make sure your child is clear on their dismissal instructions—if they will meet you on the yard or take the bus—so that they feel confident and ready for Day 1.

To help with that, new families, please fill out this form describing your after-school arrangements if you haven’t already spoken with your child’s teacher. We can pass the information along so your teacher is aware and can help if there’s any confusion.

Key announcements and information are below. Please also check out previous announcements from last week to be fully prepared. We look forward to seeing you all on Monday, August 16 at 9:30am

Entrance and Dismissal

School starts for grades K–5 at 9:30am each day. Dismissal is at 3:45pm daily except for Wednesdays, when students are released at 2:30pm.

Please drop your child off by 9:25am to ensure they are in their class, ready to learn at 9:30am. Staff will be available the first week to help support you to find your child’s class and teacher.

The school doors will open at 9:10am. Please do not drop your child off prior to 9:10am, as there will not be supervision before this time.

Once you arrive, you can walk your child to the yard from either the Eucalyptus Gate or through the Main Entrance OR you can drop your child off at the Drop Off Zone on Eucalyptus and staff will escort your child to the yard. The street on Middlefield is reserved for school buses only; please do NOT park your car on Middlefield. Please be respectful of our neighbors when parking, and don’t block their driveways.

If your child is in Kindergarten, there will be signage posted to help you locate the Kinder yard where your child will meet their teacher.

At 3:45pm dismissal, please come to the yard to collect your child from the yard. And remember: all adults entering Lakeshore must be masked at all times, both in the building and on the yard, so please be sure to have your mask on when you arrive.

Learn Safely Together

We take the safety of our students and community seriously. In order to keep all students and staff safe and in school, please be sure to follow the guidelines below.

Masks RequiredDropoffIllness
All children and families are required to wear a mask while they are on campus, both inside the building and outside on the yard.

Students will be expected to keep their masks on while on school grounds (both inside the building and classrooms and outside on the yard).

If your child rides the bus, they need to wear a mask the entire time they are on the bus.
If you are dropping your child off at school, you are no longer required to wait in line for them to be screened. Health screening will happen at home.

Each day, we ask that you consider your answers to these important questions:
Question #1 In the last 24 hours, including today, have you had a COVID-19 SYMPTOM that is new or not explained by another condition?
Question #2 In the past 10 days, have you been diagnosed with COVID-19 or had a test confirming you have the virus?
Question #3 In the past 10-14 days, have you had “close contact” with anyone who has COVID-19, during their contagious period?

If you answered “No” to all questions, please join us at school! If you answered”Yes” to any of these questions, please keep your child home and call the office to let us know.
If your child is not feeling well, please keep them at home!

If your child stays home or is sent home with a symptom associated with COVID, they can only re-enter with a doctor’s note or a negative COVID test.

Please keep your child at home if they experience any of the following symptoms:
Fever of at least 100.4°F/38°C or higher
Cough
Severe headache
Sore throat
Difficulty breathing
Vomiting or diarrhea
Loss of taste or smell that started in the last 10 days (children may say that food “tastes bad” or “tastes funny”)

What to Bring

Not much! Check out the list of suggested items towards the end of the welcome page.

Ensure You Are Connected to ParentVUE

  • SFUSD families are highly encouraged to connect with ParentVue, SFUSD’s one stop communication stop. Students new to Lakeshore will receive a letter with their activation code the first week of school.
  • Not new but have a new address or contact information? Parents should update their contact information on ParentVUE so that they can receive timely and important information from SFUSD and their schools.

Ensure You Are Connected to ParentSquare

ParentSquare is the Lakeshore community’s communication platform, separate from ParentVUE which is SFUSD’s parent portal. If you haven’t already received a ParentSquare invitation, please contact ps-admin@LakeshoreElementary.org.

ELPAC Testing

Students who are English learners will be taking the ELPAC test (English Language Proficiency Test for California) starting August 23. Initial ELPAC letters have been published in ParentVUE for families to review. Questions? Please contact Sarah Twiest at twiests@sfusd.edu

Before and After School Programming

See our Before and After School Program page for the latest program availabilities and enrollment info.

Quick highlights:

  • ExCEL/BACR offers daily before and after-school care and is currently accepting applications for before and after care at Lakeshore. If you have questions, please contact Jessie Hardwick at jhardwick@bacr.org.
  • There are a few spots open in the beginning and intermediate levels of the Afternoon Mandarin Program.
  • The weekly piano program flyer has been posted.

General Education Bussing

This year, students riding the general education bus to school will be required to board with their bus card, which will allow staff to track their safe route to and from school. If you weren’t able to come to Lakeshore to collect your child’s bus card, no worries! We will make sure your child has it by the end of the day on August 16.
