Recess Should Be Fun…

And it is. But what happens when boundaries aren’t respected between different games on the yard? Imagine a game of soccer interfering in the space of a kickball game, resulting in an argument between the two groups.

This happens at Lakeshore, as it does at many schools. Due partly to this dynamic, our girls are not participating in core games. At Lakeshore, we want to take action to reduce conflicts and make recess a great time for everyone, all the time.

Playworks Can Help

Playworks creates a place for every kid on the playground to feel included, be active, and build valuable social and emotional skills. Their coaches lead structured games and empower kids to resolve conflicts on their own. An experienced Playworks coach does not achieve this alone; selected children in the 4th and 5th grades are included as Junior Coaches.

About Playworks

Playworks is the leading national nonprofit leveraging the power of play to transform children’s social and emotional health. Playworks has been proven to decrease bullying behavior, increase physical activity, and support learning. In San Francisco and the county of Marin, Playworks is currently in 38 schools!

How to Make It Happen

To bring Playworks to Lakeshore, we need your help in fundraising! Our goal is $32,000 to bring a full-time coach to Lakeshore.

You can easily donate using the “Donate Now” button at the top of this page. Share this page with your network! To learn even more, view our Indiegogo campaign.

Can’t Other Groups Help?

Lakeshore understands that families are asked for a lot of support throughout the year. The fact is, as a public school in SFUSD, we rely on people power and parent support.

Bringing Playworks to Lakeshore is a new initiative. Class Funds go to teachers to be spent on individual teacher needs. PTA Funds go to enrichment instructors, community activities, and events. We are excited about this brand new initiative to make play time for our students as enjoyable as possible, and it will take a separate fundraising effort.
